What Protege is

Integrated Control Technology is a New Zealand company, headquartered in Auckland, and Protege is its unified security and building management platform. Protege GX serves enterprise environments; Protege WX covers smaller sites.

What distinguishes it is scope. Access control, intrusion detection and building automation are designed as one system rather than three integrated ones — lighting, HVAC, lifts and energy management run on the same controllers and through the same interface as doors and alarms.

For organisations trying to reduce the number of separate systems they administer, that consolidation is the argument. And as with Gallagher, a New Zealand vendor means engineering support sits in the same time zone as the site — which matters more than it sounds at 4pm on a Friday.

Where we come in

Protege is often specified well and then left alone. The platform is capable of running far more of a building than most organisations end up using, and the automation capability in particular is frequently commissioned once and never revisited.

Meanwhile the ordinary governance work drifts. Versions fall behind, permissions stop matching the staff list, and the person who understood the configuration has moved on.

If Protege is installed and meeting your requirements, the work isn’t replacement. It’s keeping it current, keeping it documented, and using what you’ve already paid for.

What we do with it

System validationEstablishing what’s installed, how it’s configured and which versions are running, across GX and WX environments.
Permission and cardholder governanceAccess and alarm permissions kept current as staff, contractors and rosters change, with expired access actively removed.
Unified access, intrusion and automationConfiguring the platform so building systems genuinely run through it, rather than leaving automation as a licensed capability nobody commissioned.
Planned preventative maintenanceScheduled testing across controllers, readers, sensors, communication paths and battery backup.
Remote-first supportAround 80% of service issues resolved without a site visit.
Version governanceControlled upgrades aligned to ICT’s support lifecycle, keeping the platform vendor-supported and reducing cyber exposure.
Lifecycle and budget planningObsolescence tracking, spare parts strategy and replacement forecasting through AssetGuard One.

Where this fits

Inherited estates

Protege came with the building, and the configuration was never documented.

Under-used systems

You’re licensed for automation and reporting capability that was never commissioned.

Lapsed support

The original installer is gone and nobody has touched the software in years.

Multi-platform organisations

Protege on some sites, something else on others, and no single view of either.

On replacing it

We won’t recommend a platform change you don’t need. If Protege is supported, current and doing the job, the honest advice is to keep it and manage it properly.

Where migration genuinely is the right call, it’s because of obsolescence, an unsupported version, or a requirement the platform can’t meet. We’ll show you the reasoning either way.
